I joined Delta Sigma Pi when I was a junior in Fall
2004. My main reasons behind joining were the networking
opportunities and the fact that I was going to have
a professional extracurricular activity on my resume.
Little did I know that it would actually have a major
impact on my life.
Not only did I learn and grow so much as an individual,
but I also made life long friends. Actually my closest
and best friends today are also my fellow brothers.
Now
as I approached graduation, I was prepared to leave
this chapter believing in the growth I experienced and
the friendships I had made, but ready to start my career.
Many people had claimed that this organization would
help in job searches and opportunities, but never did
I know it would hit so close to home.
I
have been searching for a position in south Florida
with a public accounting firm for the last three months.
I had a few interview and offers, but had to decline
the positions because the driving distance was a longer
commute than I had expected. Here I was back to square
one with nothing except for the letters and resumes
I had previously sent out to other firms. Then out of
the blue, I received a phone call from a firm that I
had tried to contact about five times through email
and telephone. They wanted to bring me in for an interview,
which was scheduled for the following day. An hour after
the date and time was set, I received a phone call from
the secretary challenging me for the Delta Sigma Pi
password. I was shocked and excited because this is
what would make me stand out from the rest of the candidates
applying for the position.
Long
story short, I was hired three days after the initial
phone call. Emilio Escaldon, our fellow brother and
the tax partner at the largest accounting firm in Florida,
Morrison, Brown, Argiz, and Farra had seen my resume
and asked their human resource department contact me
immediately.
Without
a doubt, I am convinced that being a part of Delta Sigma
Pi and my prayers are the only reasons that I was chosen
for this position. I feel blessed and excited that I
was given this opportunity.
Never
did I truly think that Delta Sigma Pi would have such
a major impact in my life, but it has now changed my
life dramatically in ways that I could have never imagined.
I am so proud to be a Deltasig and I am honored to be
a part of this professional business fraternity. Thank
you Theta Sigma!!!
